Alhamdulillah! It almost one month we never miss sahur or iftar — making sure our stomach is filled so that we have enough energy to get through the day and night. We are mindful of what goes into our bodies, carefully planning meals to stay strong and healthy. But here’s the question: What about our hearts? Are we feeding our spiritual needs with the same care and consistency? Just as our bodies feel weak when deprived of food, our hearts become hardened and distant from Allah when deprived of iman, dhikr, and reflection. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Indeed, in the body, there is a piece of flesh which, if it is sound, the whole body is sound, and if it is corrupt, the whole body is corrupt. Verily, it is the heart.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 52; Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1599) Just like our stomachs crave food, our hearts crave closeness to Allah.
